Waterfall Loop

You don’t have to leave Virginia to have an adventure, we have so many beautiful things to see right here! This waterfall road trip adventure starts with an hour drive to Crabtree falls and explores some of the most beautiful waterfalls in our state! Don’t want to do the whole loop? Each one of these destinations would make a good day trip.

1. Crabtree Falls
Address: Crabtree Falls, Massies Mill, VA 22976, USA
Drive from Forest: 60 – 75 minutes
Hiking Distance: 2.8 miles (round trip) of moderate trail
Parking Fee: $3
This is one of the most well known waterfalls in our state, and for good reason. The whole hike up you will enjoy a view of the waterfall and the top boasts of a gorgeous mountain view.

2. Panther Falls
Address: Panther Falls, 3, VA 24521, USA
Hiking Distance: Less than ½ mile round trip
This waterfall doubles as a swimming hole! You can wade or swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls or just admire them!

3. Falling Spring Falls
Address: Falling Spring Falls, Falling Spring, VA 24445, USA
Hiking Distance: None, it’s 500 feet from the road
This 80’ fall is one of the most dramatic waterfalls in our state and you can see it from the designated parking lot, no hiking required!

4. Roaring Run Falls
Address: 450 Roaring Run Rd, Eagle Rock, VA 24085, USA
Hiking Distance: 1.7 miles round trip with a little climbing
Roaring Run is a unique and fun waterfall. Your hike up the falls has a series of smaller falls including a natural waterslide! So bring a tube and have some fun before you reach the final destination!

5. Cascade Falls
Address:2068 Cascade Dr, Pembroke, VA 24136
Hiking Distance: 4 miles round trip- you can take the scenic way up or you can take an easier road.
This 66 foot waterfall looks like it came right out of a storybook. The beautiful meandering creek makes for a beautiful hike up to the falls.

6. Falls Ridge Nature Preserve
Address: Falls Ridge Rd, Elliston, VA 24087
Distance: 2 trails that total 5 miles, you can do them both or just one
Falls Ridge 80 foot waterfall is the main attraction of the nature preserve but it also offers caves and other fun things to explore!

7. Bottom Creek Gorge (Trail Name: Knight, Johnston and Duval)
Address: 37.130829 latitude, -80.180562 longitude
Distance: 4.7 Miles
Bottom Creek is said to be the most powerful mountain stream in our area, forming a the states 2nd highest waterfall at 200 foot waterfall.

8. Apple Orchard Falls
Address: Apple Orchard Falls, Buchanan, VA 24066, USA
Distance: 2.5 miles
Your scenic hike to the waterfall will take you by a stream, smaller waterfalls and through the woods before ending at the breathtaking Apple Orchard Falls. Standing at 200 feet, it truly is a magnificent sight!
